I have been trying to figure out what I am looking at here. I've been searching around, and can't seem to find an answer for what this is. I assume it's some sort of float switch, but is it needed on a new tank setup?

Looks like an Air Volume Control (AVC) for a jet pump. It is suppose to add air to the tank when the pump cycles on/off. They are not very dependable and most people just end up add air to the tank manually with a compressor when needed.

Ok, thanks. So would it be ok to just put a cap on it, or should I run a new line, so to not affect the pump?image.jpeg

Yep, that's an AVC for a jet pump, I haven't seen one of those in years!

I'd install a new Well X Trol diaphram tank and not worry about it anymore.

Like Craigpump says you can use a diaphragm tank and just plug both ends of the AVC line. If you continue to use the old air over water tank I would plug the AVC line at the pump and put a Schrader valve at the tank so I could blow air in with a compressor.
