Background:
So we just built a new house and put in a well in July. When we moved in the toilet water looked like someone had peed in the toilet and didn't flush it. Also the water smelled and tasted like Iron. I looked up online and found out we have ferrous iron in are water. We called the well guy and he said that we had to go thru thousands of gallons of water to flush the well and then it should get better. Well we put in grass seed and we were watering 3/day and the water was staying clear and having no off tastes. We thought he was right but then we just winterized our sprinklers and now we have iron staining and gross iron water again. We called the well guy and he came out and tested the water and said that the iron level was high (he said it was 1 ppm) and that he could put a water right sanitizer on for $1700 to solve the problem. I couldn't find much about this system online so we called a local water specialist (who happened to be a Kinetico dealer) and he said that are iron level was 5.5 ppm, ph 6.9, and 17 hardness. He recommended a 2100F macrolite iron filter and then a 2060S water softener for $6490. 0h and we are a family of 8.
So my question to you guys is, are either of these options good? I don't like how the water right system uses chlorine, but the price isn't too bad. Or do you know of something better and/or more cost effective then the kenitico? We have never had a well so we have a lot to learn. We really want to get this problem solved soon. Thanks so much in advance for your knowledge and help.

There are many ways to solve iron issues. The Waterright Sanitizer series is a good design but as with any iron water, system maintenance will be important. Iron tends to foul equipment up fairly easily. You could ask the guy to show you what needs to be cleaned and how to do it. Also ask him if the system will handle 5-6 ppm...

From your post above "So we just built a new house and put in a well in July. When we moved in the toilet water looked like someone had peed in the toilet and didn't flush it. Also the water smelled and tasted like Iron."

I don't recommend drinking the water from the toilet. :)
