I have scoured the internet but cannot find out the trick. I hope there is one. The new valve came with the gasket (or seal) already in it. The gasket is very thick. In order to install the valve the gasket needs to be compressed over 1/4 inch evenly so that the 3 retaining tabs can clear the porcelain and be twisted and locked into place. I have exerted all my strength and have been unable to achieve this. I followed this advice regarding the installation of other Kohler valves: draining and cleaning out the tank, freezing the valve ( to shrink the gasket), lubricating the gasket and tabs ( I used silicone plumbers grease) and finally applying brute force.

Please help!
