Hey guys,

This is my first post, we just closed on a house and are in the process of updating it.

We encountered a 1980s (original construction) Roman tub faucet that I have never seen before. We wanted to change out the trim, hope anyone can help!

Thanks in advance.

You may need to take the acrylic handle off and remove the stem to identify the brand of faucet. Take a close up picture of the end of the stem when the handle is removed. After you take out the stem lay it next to a ruler and take a picture showing the length and features of the stem.

Thanks, I tried to remove the plastic retaining cap but it's so brittle from sun damage that I can't get a good angle to pop it open without breaking the cap. Any ideas?

Thanks, hj and smooky.

I was able to use a box cutter and open up the acrylic handle. Please see photos from this.
I think it may be indeed valley in which my options are limited.

Thanks.

The part next to your ruler is the stem extension. The stem is still in the faucet body. It looks like it has a "D" shaped broach. Take it out and lay it next to the ruler. The length will give you a starting point of where to look. Here are some similar stems:

Thanks for your help, Smooky. I think I'm out of luck for replacing the trim, we aren't planning to tear up the bathroom just yet. I am afraid if I take out the stem, it'll start leaking and we will need to replace something... There is no access door to the guts so that'll be a major undertaking.

To whom may want to help - so I have the same faucet that's in this post. In my case though, I had to break open the tile to stop the leak behind the wall. Now I'm going to replace this all but I have another shower where I would like to just replace the handles. So I've attached the marking that is on the valve itself to see if anyone can identify the manufacturer. I'm not sure it's Valley

Ok - I got to the bottom of this on - it
was made by Stanadyne, which as I understand it bought Moen in 50’s or so and then Moen started its own company in the mid 80’s. The marking is on the tub spout underneath
