Need advice on how to remove this Moen Posi-Temp shower stem

I am complete noob when it comes to these kinds of plumbing things, so if someone could help me figure out how to remove this shower stem, that would be awesome.

That's a Moen Posi-Temp valve.
First pull upward on the clip that holds the cartridge in place.
With the clip gone, the cartridge pulls out.

That may be an oversimplification. Even with the "proper" puller, it does not always 'slide out easily". I have had to pry them out with a crowbar, melt them out with a hot screwdriver, and/or twist them out with an internal wrench.
