I have this high pressure running water sound in my house for over a week now and cannot find the source! It sounds like the water is running at high volume, but we have checked everywhere and can't figure this out. When we turn the water to the house off, the sound quits. We can't tell if it's inside or outside. We haven't seen water anywhere. It's not the toilets. What could this sound be? Do I need to call a plumber?

Thanks

Calling the plumber now will be cheaper than paying that upcoming water bill..... I'm no pro... but running water is running water.... and you've got a leak somewhere.... I'm assuming you've checked the toilet tank valves..... I've heard some interesting sounds eminating from them when they are not shutting off properly...

leak

I assume you have a concrete slab floor. If so, then you have a broken water line under the floor, probably a hot water pipe, and also probably right near or under a wall where the pipes rise into a wall. Call a plumber to verify it, if necessary he can call a leak locator to pinpoint the location, then call your homeowner's insurance company. If you do not have Allstate, the company will usually cover the costs, except for actually repairng the pipe, and less your deductible.

I would turn off the water where it enters your home. Still there? What about at the meter on the street, can you shut it off there? Maybe you can narrow down wether its inside or outside the house.

I know if you're using a sink in one part of the house and listen to the sink (put your ear to it) in another part you can hear it. Maybe you're hopfully hearing water running and leaking outside your house and before your meter *cross fingers*

The noise quits when I turn the water off at the street. I need to ask my husband if he turned it off at the house. All I know is that this is the same sound as when the sprinklers are on, or the dishwasher, or washing machine. We've checked everything and can not figure this out. Sure hope it's not a broken pipe under the house.
