Is it a code requirement that the exterior water faucets on a duplex (2 unit multifamily) be fed from the same metered water supply?

In past these 2 faucets were separated and fed from the individual units (meter) that they were obviously close to. Each unit has its own meter, so the other person would not be have to pay for the others water.

That would be a pretty dumb code requirement, in my opinion. I am not up on codes.

When I think of a duplex, I think of a dividing line. Having a spigot on side A fed with water from side A, and a spigot on side B fed by water from side B.

Now if you told me that both spigots were on side B, then I would say that is weird. In that case, I am not sure that a code might prohibit crossing the line. But if that were the case, I would have thought you would have mentioned that in your description. But if it is not the case, I wonder why you would even ask the question.

The code does not care WHO pays for the water so they do not have any requirements. In fact, some buildings do not have any exterior hose faucets.
