The dimmer seems to be anchored to wood.
Is the box filled with drywall compound?
Is there a box under there somewhere?
    Very creative.

That's funny... A somewhat fancy light fixture and a quite tacky looking wiring job!

Usually the people who want the fancy stuff are very picky about wires being hidden, walls patched perfectly, etc.

Somebody has already said it, but that really is a classy chandelier.

Solid brass, probably Virginia and possibly Williamsburg.

Sell the light to fix the switch.

That looks like a light fixture I purchased in 1985.

    It's been changed out since.

You sure find the odd homes in your inspections.
I can't imaging wiring in my house like that, what with Grandkids coming over and all.
