Mixer Problem

Like most people I turn the water on and adjust the temp at the spout before I pull the diverter to shower.

What has been happening is the even after adjusting the temp, the water that comes out of the shower head is scalding hot. I have tried adjusting the temp at the shower head but the water temp does not change until it suddenly goes cold.

That seems to be my choices, scalding hot or freezing cold.

I have never heard of this kind of problem before. Is it something with the mixing valve or has my shower been possessed by demons?

Depending on the make and model, it is probably in the shower unit.
