Need to decide which tub surround I'm going with. Leaning toward a Mustee molded fiberglass which is nailed to studs. Using with existing cast iron tub.
Only molded nail to stud unit I could find that will fit an existing tub. It has interlocking panels, but does need caulked where unit meets tub. Sterling, Lasco, etc only have molded units to fit their tubs. My question is what if you only needed to replace tub surround in future (ie. damage, etc). If the drywall is installed over flanges of surround, how would this be done? Would you have to cut drywall around surround? I would think a glue on surround would be easier to replace. But I like the idea of a thicker unit and not having to drywall under surround. How long will a Fiberglass unit last is taken care of? Has anyone had to replace just a surround after drywall was installed?
