Hi peeps

A while ago my downstairs neighbour was working on his flat, and turned off the mains water.

when I wanted to use my water heater, I set it on, but it never heated, I then realised that the tank had emptied, and then all I needed to do was reset it.
May have nothing to do with what my neighbour was doing.

Anyway, now it is leaking terribly, and I have to turn the water off, so that it does not leak all over the place, I can still use the heater, but my question is
1. does my heater have an inner tank that we can repair or anything
2. I cannot see any usual holes where the water is actually leaking form , it just runs down from a few
places.
3. Is this water heater likely to be 1 piece or not
(does the centre come out to give us access to piping or not!!!!)

I am attaching pictures for you, just in case you recognise the make.

When a water heater starts leaking like that, it's time for replacement.
They can fail anytime after ten years.

Really Really appreciate your advice

I really want to know if it be accessed is there an inner part? Or completely sealed?

Here are pics of the heater from underneath

I really want to know, if mine is accessible to open up, and repair the leak.

Cheers

Basically, if you fire up a gas WH with no water in it, the thermal stresses will likely ruin it quickly. I'm afraid it is likely toast. In general, there is no patching that can be done. If you do this with an electric WH, you will almost immediately burn out the elements. If you're really lucky, you might replace them, but it will not have any effect on the leaks.

Hi there jadnashua,

The WH is electric, and my main question is that is it one piece, or can I access the inside to repair it

Thanks

Hi Lellylel
I believe Jadnashua is right and it is highly unlikely one could repair this heater. Not economically viable, better to replace.
I'm at a loss to understand, how the heater became empty of water? I'd be looking to rectify that to avoid a repeat!!

Yes we will replace the heater.

Out of complete curiosity...
is this heater likely to be one piece
(or is the case separate to the piping etc.)

I'm not familiar with this make of heater, however it is most likely to be of one piece construction, like many other makes, insulated with an outer casing and pipe connections attached thereto.

A typical WH used in the USA has threaded female fittings that allow connection to all of the piping. No idea what the convention is elsewhere in the world.

Pretty much the same down under Jadnashua, 20mm female connections to WH for residential properties.
