Hey guys,love this forum! I have a one piece F/G tub & shower combo unit that i'm having a very difficult time getting a small leak fixed.When showering,a little water runs down the back of the tub from the trip lever gasket area and into my currently unfinished basement's concrete floor.I plan on finishing the basement and know that it's imperative to get this fixed before i could ever install a ceiling in the basement. Both tubs in my home have this exact same problem. Last night i completely removed the trip lever and drain assembly to thoroughly inspect the tub area at trip lever/gasket and parts for cracks,fitment,alignment and/or any obvious problems to which i might relate the leak but found nothing .I then disassembled everything,thoroughly cleaned,thread sealed and reassembled and reinstalled ( w/new trip lever gasket) paying particular attention to gasket fit and trip lever,gasket and overflow tube alignment.I took my time and was meticulous with installation but the *%$@#^ thing is still leaking!Hang on! the tv is on and an episode of "ask this old house" is airing and the next 'project' is about a homeowner who's shower leaks to ceiling below!I'm not making this up!Be right back!I've got to check out this segment ..... .Hmmmm ,plumber figured it was water getting behind valve escutcheon/trim ring-used plumbers putty in place of cheap factory foam gasket and voila! Plumbers putty! I hadn't thought of using it along with gasket as a double seal-I was thinking silicone caulk(but only as a last resort) because it's such a 'jerry-rigg' fix- when you are at your wits end and have to admit defeat!But i went and tried the putty with the gasket and that seems to have done the trick! 
Still open to suggestions from you pros(as i feel certain some of you have had to deal with such an issue)!Besides maybe this (long- winded) posting will help others out there!Thanks in advance.
