Kohler 3397 EB

HJ - you stated:
"I replace the fill valve with the Coast 1B-1-X and the flapper with a Korky from HD. You cut off the Kohler plastic rim flush pipe and insert the Coast one into it after it is cut to size."

Are there any instructions posted on how to install Coast Fill Valve Kit on the Kohler 3397 EB? Where do you cut off the Kohler plastic rim flush pipe and is there any caulking required when inserting the Coast one in (after cutting to size)?

This question is not limited to HJ's response. Anyone who knows how to install the Coast Kit may respond with detailed instructions. Thanks.

My mom has 3 Kohler toilets, model K-3397 EB. One of them has started running and bubbling continuously. Kohler has told her that the part we need, #84499 (flush valve?), isn't manufactured anymore and she'll have to buy a new toilet. I found an earlier post on this board saying it was possible to repair a Kohler with a rebuild kit. Can you tell us what we need, and if it's available anywhere? Thanks so much. Suzanna Spring

I followed the instructions in the Kohler video for replacing the flush valve seal along with printed instructions included with the Fluidmaster 400A and was successful in repairing my leaking Kohler K-3397. It was pretty simple. I adjusted the water line by turning the Water valve on the Fill Valve all the way to (-) and it fills just below the water line, which is sufficient. Additionally, that black tube did not reach over to the square water thingy with the flapper (name escapes me), but it was not necessary to flush and fill properly. Attached are my photos after installation. Took be about 2 hrs as I had to read instructions, watch video. Actual time for second toilet should be about 45-60 mins. Total cost in parts: $13. Hope this helps. I learned all this just by reading this thread. Thanks to everyone who posted!

FYI: plumbing is NOT sexy unless you complete the task at hand, then everyone in the household thinks you’re a genius!
