Kitchen Stoves: Gas Released With Pilot Out?

On continuous pilot stoves is gas release when the pilot is blown out or is there a safety shut-off within the stove?

For the top pilots, gas will continue to come out. I suppose the amount of gas is so small that it is not considered a hazard.
