When is it necessary for chemical injection during backwash? is that always necessary for Katalox light?
No, Katalox is often used with no additional oxidizer depending on the amount of oxygen contained in the water. As your well is shallow, I expect it will contain enough oxygen to assist the KL to remove the low levels of iron, manganese and H2S that you report.

Your Hardness at 390 / 17.1 = 22.8 gpg. A big box brand softener is often false economy due to reduced longevity and premature service requirements.

You likely would have been better to restore the operation of the existing 2 cuft softener.

As an alternative to KL, a simple chlorine system for the H2S which will also oxidize the iron and manganese. A back washing carbon filter will remove the oxidized solids as well as the chlorine and byproducts.
