I am trying to understand as much as I can in a very short period of time. Drinking from a fire hose ;)

So the more I read about Katalox and Hydrogen Sulfide the one thing that is not discussed is how long does the water need to be in contact with the media for full catalyazation. They only talk about how many PPM it can remove.
I have been noticing in the morning when I take a shower, the water is great.. Then it seems like around 5 minutes into it the smell starts to come back. it never gets as high as without any treatment. That would make you puke. But still just smells like a typical fart in the shower. :)

So I started thinking of some math here.. My 10x54 tank holds 18.2 gallons (assuming no media) My showerhead assuming 2.5 Gallons a minute would use the contents of the tank in 7.3 minutes. This is very close to the time my water starts to stink. Not so noticeable on the hot water only. Maybe the catalyst continues while sitting on the HW tank..??

1. How long does the water need to be in contact with the Katalox for full effect.
2 Does the process continue with the H2s even after it leaves the tank?

It is far more complex than simply ontact time. Dissolved oxygen levels in the water ORP, pH, water temperature and a multitude of other factors need to be considered. In general, H2s needs an oxidant for KL to be effective consistently. Catalytic carbon can also be used but this has a more finite life expectancy compared to KL. Properly applied, we can get KL to work on up to 150 ppm H2s for up to a year, at 500 gallons per day per ft3... a carbon tank may last a few days at best.
