After having a bathroom remodel, my new tub drains very slow. It is an old house so I snaked the drains and have used the enzyme drain cleaner for weeks with no luck. I decided to look at the plumbing and it seems odd that the drain pipe comes straight out from the side of the drain, then takes a 90 degree turn down and curves upward at the PVC connection. Please see the pic below, is the drain pipe connfiguration causing the slow drain? Is is properly installed?

That looks good to me.
It may be that the linkage needs adjusting. There is a bucket to acts as a stopper in the tub. When adusted correctly, it lifts up and allows a quick tub drain.

The bend in the PVC is the p-trap on the tub to prevent sewer gas from entering the home. All tubs and showers should have those. The trap is not the problem.
