I've had people tell me that putting in a kitchen sink garbage disosal is not a good idea if your house is on a septic tank system and that they are meant only for houses on city sewers. What's your opinion on this?...or what, if any, rule is there concerning whether or not to install garbage disposals?... I've seen them on both... elite homes have them regardless of the possible problems....

MY parents' house has had one for over 50-years...just make sure to not go overboard with the waste and pump the tank regularly...

septic systems

I have a septic system

Got the in-sink-erator...

got a water condtioner..

got a wife and two kids throwing god knows what
down the drain.

its not gonna hurt a thing...

most municipalities have MANDATED disposals
in the code on all new construction.

throw some rid-x down the bowl if you are worried
about your septic...

disposers

If you took all the disposers out of houses on septic tanks around here you would incite a rebellion from housewives who have had them for many, many years, including mine.

Insinkerator makes a disposer with a bottle of enzymes attached to it, specifically for folks on a septic system. It injects a little of the enzyme mixture every time you use it.
