Bought my house few years back. Was built in 1960
Has a shallow well about 10 feet from house 24 feet deep and jet pump.
put in a new softening system, old one never worked at all.
a new pressure tank.And had upgraded pump from a 20-40 to a 40-60.
It made a huge differance but has also always seemed to struggle keeping up after pump kicks on.
What is the smallest size the inlet pipe should be.
My current pipe coming thru wall from well is only a 3/4 inch galvanized pipe.
This just seems to small and I think it may be my problem.
I have lived with it, but it is starting to really bug me lately.

I don't recommend a 3/4" inlet on any suction (shallow well) pump, however I see many systems with them. If possible I recommend that you install a 1-1/4" suction line all the way to the well. I'm confident that you'll find a real improvement plys your pump won't be struggling so hard.

Thanks for the reply, that is exactly what I thought.
Was sort of in denial, because last year I did some renovations and had the whole area around well dug up right to the house,
entire line in open. Should have done it then.
I don't have a problem with digging, just hate doing things twice.
Another question.
While I have it dug up, what do you think about installing a submersible?
I like the idea of not hearing pump run anymore.
