India, Varanasi, River Ganges
We were there February 27th and 28th during a pilgrimage. Thousands of people were there in the streets and on the water in the evenings.
It was fascinating and exciting in many ways. It's one of the oldest continuous lived in city in the world. And India's oldest city.
Hindu's believe that death at Varanasi brings salvation. We saw many burials along the river those two days. Older ones being cremated, and the young ones weighted down with rocks and sunk in the river.

We got there earlier in the evening and pushed out in a wooden boat, soon were were surrounded by other boats.

People at one point started walking across boats to meet with friends.

The following morning we went back to see the sunrise on the River Ganges.
