Hello,

As far as I can remember, this piece has been the cause of a humming noise. Any ideas on what this does and if I could easily replace it?

Thanks!

It is the transformer for the low voltage controls. Need to find the specs, might be printed on the other side somewhere. Most likely, it is 24 VAC output rated 40 volt/amps. Any electric supply or heating supplier will have it. Do not subsitute a "doorbell " transformer from the hardware store.

All transformers make that humming noise. A new one is not guaranteed to be any quieter.

Especial when mounted on a plate like that.

Normal operation for the way it is installed, I think.
