How do I connect a p-trap to this waste connector?

The wall tube is 1-1/2" and the waste connector has a smaller inner diameter, so the waste arm won't slip into the stub.

Is there some kind of adapter I'm supposed to use?

In addition, the trap can rotate to the desired angle, then raised a bit (by cutting the sink drain) to fit the stub out in the wall.

The wall tube and the stub are only able to butt into each other. I thought the waste arm is supposed to slip into the stub.

I looked through the post but did not see anything addressing that.

I assume there's some kind of adapter, but I can't seem to find what I need. Is there a way to connect the 2 that's not a slip joint?

This is a picture of an Eastman 35401 1-1/2 in. FIP x 1-1/2 in. O.D. Brass Female Trap Adapter. The P-trap tubing should be able to fit inside that nut. You appear to have a similar trap adapter, but you don't show the nut.

The exact inner dimension of the waste connector is 1-1/4" and I am missing the nut, forgot to save it when I tossed the old p-trap.

The question is still the same, I thought the waste arm is supposed to slip into the stub.

You would need a 1-1/4 p-trap to fit that trap adapter, even if you find the nut. So your thoughts were correct, I think.

How big is the thread that trap adapter is screwed onto? Some could probably tell by the photos, but I can't. You will need a trap adapter that fits that thread, and you will need a p-trap to match the trap adapter.

I would unscrew that trap adapter piece and see how big the thread it is screwed onto is. You will be buying a new trap adapter anyway.

The copper stub was NOT "reamed" and that is why the trap does not slip into it, but then, it does NOT have to enter the pipe. It just has to go into the trap adapter.

Just went to a plumbing supply store and got a 1-1/4" p-trap and they had a standard nut that fits the waste pipe trap adapter. Amazingly they didn't have an extra 1-1/4" compression washer for the nut so have to go to the depot for it.

I'll probably trim that wall tube and swing the j-bend towards the wall. Hopefully should be good from here.
