Greetings

We have a well that is suddenly running brown from the cold taps but clear from the hot taps.

Not sure if either of these are relevant, but (1) we are in the middle of a spring thaw with lots of melt on the ground, and (2) we had a 5 day power outage ending 5 days ago, during which time we ran the well pump from a generator that we ran several hours a day. House is 5 years old with pex piping.

I will be testing the water this week (probably time anyway) but wonder if anyone has any suggestions as to the cause of the discoloration.

As always, many thanks.

It might be that the sediment has time to settle out in the WH. SO, you might want to flush it out before it bakes on into a hard sludge.
