Sometimes the tile or install cuts too big a hole for the tub spout to cover. I had one of those last week. The standard tub spout is about 2-1/2" and normally the hole is something like 1-3/8". Most of the time, perfect.
However last week the hole was too large and off center.

And they had turned the screw into the copper and it now had a hole. I had to heat and replace the copper pipe coming from the wall. The problem was that now the old spout still did not cover. I went to the Moen web site and found their Moen 3857 tub spout.

The Moen 3857 is very large at the back and covered perfectly. :)
While I was at it, a new TL473 trim for the handle.
