Help with a shallow well.

I am putting a mobile home on land that has an existing well which hasn't been used in 7 years. We had problems getting water with the old pump and figured it was no good but when we tested the pump by drawing water from our pond it was steady pumping out water. The well is about 17 ft deep and we ran a line down it to check the water level and we hit water about 6 ft down. We were able to draw water from the well using a hand pump after a bit of priming but the pump will not draw any water from the well. Any ideas?

The pump won't "draw" water up 17'. You will need a foot valve at the bottom and prime the pump yourself.
