I'm trying to remove a push button Delta shower diverter (single ball type). I have almost no room to work with and more importantly there almost nothing to grasp to diverter with. It's so thin and flush. I would really appreciate any advice as to how to loosen it.

Also, if the water is turned off in the tub why do i need to water off to the whole house? Isn't the diverter is downstream of the tub's valve and therefore dry??

that problem can be kinda mean sometimes...

hose it down with wd40 then smack it lightly a few
times directly flat onto it with a hammer and
chisell to loosen it up

you can use a small cold chisel to knock the nut
loose in the right direction too with a few little "love taps"
then see if you cant get
a pair of channer locks on it.....it should give.

if thier is tile right up to the diverter bolt,
you are going to have to
chisel out some of the tile to get a good grip on the nut...

nothing else can be done here...

you just have to
show it who is boss...

its never been that much of a problem......

the water is off at the faucet.

as long as you dont turn on that actual faucet
you are not going to have to worry about water flooding out
anything....

enjoy the moment.

thanks, mp mark

i chisseled out some tile and after another trip to home depot to replace my old & missing channel locks i think it will work. i seem to have a two home depot trip minimum to accomplish anything.

thanks for the quick and informative reply.

What kind of diverter is it? All of the Delta built in shower diverters that I have ever seen where screwed into the valve body with a 3/4" hex "nut" to remove them. And once it was unscrewed, after removing the big round trim plate, it slipped right out.

follow up

I got it out with the channel locks. It may have been a hex nut, but I don't think I would have been able to get a wrench around it because i was working thru the hole in the tile and didn't have too much room to work with.

Thanks again.

They make inexpensive sockets for removing valves inside of the wall.
