Here's the short version of the project since Valentines Day 08:
-gut the entire bathroom since the pilings have sank and that end of the house sank 4 inches
-jack up the floor, install more footers, fill w/ concrete
-install 3/4 plywood over 3/4 plywood to support tile floor
-install two more floor joists
-remove all rotten wood and install new wall studs as needed
-new insulation R11 wall insulation and greenboard on walls & ceiling w/ coat of Kilz
-set 12x12 ceramic on floor, grout & grout seal
-install pre-fab shower basin over lumps of thinset at drain & 3" from all corners
-this bath is on the NE side of the house; we're on a floodplain prone to flooding, moisture, bugs & fungus. Here on the coast, NE winds are cold, damp & rotten in the winter.
Here's the questions:
We're ready to put up the 12x12 ceramic tile we used on the
floor. We will have two walls w/ tile (corner) and the other two walls are made up of the glass walls in the frameless shower kit we purchased.
?? - For moisture barrier, will the coat of Kilz on the greenboard suffice since we're putting up Hardibacker under the tile? Do we need some other moisture barrier before we put up the Hardibacker?
?? - Can we use the ACRYLPRO (Custom Building Products) adhesive to attach the tile to the Hardibacker or will this cause us headache and misery later? (Floor tile installed w/ thinset-this product only on walls)
?? - Any other recommendations to avoid costly leaks, moldy & rotten wood and other icky 'failures' in tile shower installs?
