Hello,

I recently installed my katalox iron filter and am now noticing a film (almost looks oily) in the toilets and tub.

The system is 2cf of Katalox lite with an Autotrol 740f valve/controller. I did the install myself and ran the backwash cycle until the water ran clear, I then let it run 2 re-gen cycles, and finally put it in service and ran several faucets until they all ran clear. A couple days later we finally cleaned up the iron stains in the toilets and tubs and that's when we noticed the film. Any thoughts? I currently have the filter being bypassed right now.

Thank you

Put it back online and put the system into backwash. Once the unit is in backwash unplug the power from the valve and allow the KL to backwash for 30 minutes. Make sure you have adequate backwash water. What size tank and what is your water temperature?

Once this is complete, you should be good.

Thanks Ditto, I inadvertently let it run for almost an hour...lol. Though it appears as though the film is gone. It is a 12x48 tank, not sure what the water temp is though. Should I run cold water through the tap and measure it or get it right from the bladder?

The water going into the KL system temp. We use the water temp to determine the proper backwash flow rate. Cold water is more dense and can allow the system to use less backwash water.
