We have an Eljer two piece round front made in 1999. I'm not familiar with the model--it has a large jet in the front, a barrier around the flapper. Bowl shape would make it hard to plunge.

The house froze and there's a crack in the bottom of the passage to the jet. Is there any good reason not to patch this with epoxy and keep it in service?

Thanks.

You don't have the best toilet to begin with, so I'd sure consider getting a new better quality toilet that doesn't require plunging.

As long as your insurance is current, you can patch your $50 dollar toilet without worries.
If it causes damage to the home, you only have to cover the $1,000 deductible.

Keep in mind, that if you see one crack, there could be more.

We pulled out a Kohler Cimarron bowl this week with a crack in the lower part of the bowl that was leaking onto the floor. The toilet was only a year old.

I would personally never have a cracked toilet sitting in my home acting like a time bomb.

Most epoxies, available to the consumer anyways, don't work all that great underwater, especially on a glass (glazed) surface. It's probably time for a new toilet.

I'd hate to have that toilet blow to pieces while someone is sitting on it.
Busted toilets can be quite sharp!
Somebody could get badly cut.
