Planning remodel of kitchen for a small 700 sq. ft. northern Michigan lakeside cottage. Usually two (2) and four (4) adults at the most will inhabit the dwelling. New septic field to be installed (engineered raised) shortly.

Would a garbage disposal and/or a dishwasher pose problems for a new modern septic field system?

Please advise. Thanks!

The harsh detergent used in the dishwasher would stunt the bugs. The garbage disposer would add bio material to feed the bugs which would be beneficial.

If it did, then we have MILLIONS of homes, (including mine), with a major problem, and many of them are NOT on "modern septic systems".
