I have 2 drains that were on my 2 bowl sink.

The new sink has a single bowl. I need to hook up a dishwasher and a disposal.

Can I use one of the drains for the dishwasher and the other for the sink/disposal?

Would an air gap be desirable?

Thanks.

Some places require an air-gap. This shows the air gap draining into the disposer.

You can also use a second p-trap and bypass the disposer.

The advantage of an air gap, is that you don't get sludge from the kitchen sink draining back into the dishwasher.
I was visiting one home, and between washing, the dishwasher would fill with dark, smelly water, almost to the point of overflowing past the door.
When I installed an air gap, you never saw that again.

Thanks,Terry.

I was thinking of using one drain for the dishwasher and the other drain for the disposal.

Are there any issues with this set-up?

Thank you for your help.
