I have removed an outside hot tub and now need to disable the circuit. The new owner of the hot tub bought the outside subpanel. I am planning to leave a single outdoor box where I will leave the terminated cable.
If I cap the wires in that outside box, can I just leave everything as is in the main panel? I would turn off the breaker and label it "unused". Or do I have to remove the breaker and cap the cables in the main panel? Or can I disconnect the cable from the breaker, cap the cables and leave the disconnected breaker in the panel?

Turn off the breaker, take the wires off it if you like, cap the outside wires and you are good.

As long as the wires are capped inside the box, with a cover on it, you don't have to do anything with the breakers.
Thanks. I've capped the wires cut the conduit coming out of the box at about 4" and capped it. The breaker is labelled "hot tub" and I'll add "disconnected".
