Delta tech support said I need to be careful that the base of the spout is the same footprint.
Also I need to use one with the same location set nut on the back.
found the exact part I need at this site, but it is out of stock.
I don't want to replace the fixture, just the trim.

Well, actually my sister is doing this at her house out of state and I ant to keep it simple.
This is whatt I have:

This is the closest I could find that is available. / Does anyone know if it is a direct replacement for the trim?

You need one that fits the DELTA hub on top of the tub inside the spout, and since Delta sometimes changes models, we cannot tell you which spout will fit your hub. Some hubs are replaceable but you would have to remove your spout so see the hub attaches with an Allen screw.
