Hi, I‘m going to install a Delta classic 500 60x32 shower surround in my basement. I’m wanting to gain another inch of clearance between my toilet and the shower stall by using 2x3 studs for the rear 60” wall. The other two walls will be framed out with 2x4’s. Does anyone see any problems I might have by doing it this way? I did call Delta’s customer service , but of course all they can say is to follow the enclosed direction.

Delta 500 surround

Thanks,
Mike

I can't see that causing any issues. The surround only screws to the studs on the nailing flange correct? Rather than gluing to a surface. So as long as your framing is secure, then it should be fine. I've seen plenty of basements flat studded with showers attached.

Thanks, The surround is screwed at the top, but there is a couple spots where the surround is glued in a couple spots. If I do go this way, I‘ll definitely beef it up.
