Damsel in distress! Shower trim boo boo

I am in SO much trouble
I purchased the "TOTO Legato Trim for Dual Volume Control Valve TS624D2 " (brushed nickle) w/the 2STD valve.
AND...a Toto Wall spout (TS960E). No shower arm/flange/head...had that covered.
Annnnnnd...it (spout) has no diverter. OOPS!
I had no idea!! what with..**Volume, Temp, Flow, Single, Multi...blah blah blah...
I had NO clue what I was getting, evidently, with all of this jargon.
Should have bought a 'set', I guess.

Is there a quick save? I have my guys coming to do the reno work and I am in a pinch.
- Return the trim & valve? (keep the diverter-less tub spout?) Then...what to get????
- Return the tub spout for one with diverter? (although there are few styles that match the sleek square shower trim)..keep trim/valve I already bought?
-Is there a separate divert valve that I can add? (what kind??)

And can you explain these terms** (like I am a 5 yr. old) if you will.

Which rough valve do you have?

It looks like the trim does divert if it matches to the correct rough.

What you have is a diverter, but no temperature control.
