Hi! First time posting here but I have a combo boiler/water heater in my house with a separate tank for storing the hot water. The hot water has been coming out rusty/discolored recently. My plumber wants to replace the tank entirely, but I wanted to see if I could just flush it out, the way you could with a traditional water heater by using a hose and flushing out the system.

Is this is a possibility? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Try turning off the boiler and draining the tank completely (don't scald yourself) and seeing just how much crud comes out with it. The model & make of the tank might be useful information to share too- they're not all the same.
