My next door neighbor and I both have well water that is cloudy. It started today. Any ideas what this could be?

How deep are your wells? Does the casing stick up above ground by about a foot?

Also, if you leave a glass of cloudy water sitting for an hour and overnight. Does the cloudiness go up higher, go down lower in the glass, or what?

If it is a gas, I would have expected it to clear at the bottom first. If it is regular clay (small particles) the water would tend to clear at the top first, and eventually the particles would settle to the bottom. Colloidal clay is really small particles and may never settle.

Leave your glass in a fixed place, or even switch to a glass jar with a lid. See how long it take to settle.
