Clean a Buderus GB142 heat exchanger

The Buderus website says to use an 80/20 mix of water/mineral oil, spray it on the heat exchanger (avoiding the igniter and flame sensor), then run on high fire for 10-minutes...then flush it out. How well does that work? Anyone tried it?
