Can I make this a compression fitting?

Say, . . . If I add a new compression ring & nut, will this spigot, or bibb, become a compression fitting on 1/2 inch copper pipe? . . . Thanks

No. Compression fittings have a different thread. You may be able to solder (sweat) that to a piece of 1/2 inch copper pipe. Often such valves are made to let you either use the 1/2 inch NPT thread or solder to the outside of 1/2 copper pipe.

If you solder, I would remove the plastic handle during the soldering.
