I ran into an issue this weekend. Basically I started noticing water coming out of the cleanout of my existing cast iron pipe that was in the floor when the upstairs washing machine would drain (only items on this line are kitchen sink with disposal and washing machine).
I called a plumber who came out twice to attempt to snake the drain but they were unsuccessful. They recommended busting up the slab. Due to the cost of this project, I ended up doing it myself (see pictures below). Once I had it all excavated I could see this problem was going on for quite sometime and the water had basically been draining under the foundation. There was a large hole in the cast 90 and then the lateral 4 inch drain line had about a 1/2 crack along the bottom. I ended up taking out about 4 feet of pipe and it was all cracked. I was going to keep digging but I realized the line went right under the furnace.
I decided to run new schedule 40 pvc along the back of the basement, into the crawl on the other side of the house and tie into the main drain there which has been operating without an issue for a couple of days. See pictures below. I should have posted prior to doing the work but I just wanted to get it working again. Is this fix something that will past muster for future inspections? I went from 2 inch pipe to 3 inch just to be safe. Slope almost exactly 1/4 per foot for the entire run. Almost a 50 foot run total.
