This is what I have now its 1/2 horse and it can't maintain 30psi or greater any longer , few spells with dry running.

My setup is a 350 foot well with a 1.5 HP gould that pumps up into a 500 gallon tank unpressurized. I then use the booster pump to take water from the tank and pressurize it into a 3 gallon bladder tank under it then into the house. The house is single story and about 5 feet higher then where the pump is located. The tank and the pump room are at about equal hieght, if the tank is full, the water line is about a foot or 2 above where the pump currently sits.

I'm looking to replace this pump with something better. I was looking at the grundfos MQ3-45 however it seems there is just to many things to go wrong on it, and they frequently do.

I'd also like to add a float to prevent dry running, not sure exactly what to get besides a float valve and wire.

I have a 1 bath house, I'd like to be able to get at least 40PSI.

Thank you.

not sure what a jet is but don't think that's what it is. I think it was a sears craftsman shallow well pump

It could be the jet, but if you do indeed have a Sears pump, my money would be that the pump is junk.

Suggestion, replace that Sears with a Goulds unit and put a CSV on it to limit the pump cycles.

I wanted to go with a much better pump then the sears one, I already replaced my well pump with a nice one. CSV, is that basically a restricting valve? I don't quite understand how or why it does.

I understand its a cycle stop valve, after that, not so much more understanding.

This graphic will help show you how a CSV compares to the old pressure tank only method.

Then the same thing can be done to a jet pump, shown here.

Since your 3 gallon pressure tank only holds about ½ gallon of water, the CSV will hold a steady pressure and keep the pump from cycling on/off while you are using water.

This is not to say that you should not get a new pump. But if you go to http://www.searspartsdirect.com/ you can probably see diagrams that will show you the jet parts. You could, I presume, clean the jet / injector area. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Injector

http://www.eninepump.com/zhichi/technical_11.html tells how jet pumps work.

You could also consider switching to a low power (1/2 HP 15 GPM maybe) submersible pump that would sit horizontally in the 500 gal tank. You could use that with a CSV and your little pressure tank, or you could get a big pressure tank. Submersible is quieter and more efficient. It does not need priming. There have been threads that discuss that.
