I have a leaky cold water MIP valve or boiler drain faucet to my washing machine. I am a novice to this. Is this something I can replace by shutting off main water valve, checking to maker sure no water is coming out of faucet and then unscrewing it and replacing it? Or do I need to call in a plumber for this?

If the boiler drain is actually threaded into an adapter, you should be able to just unscrew it. However, if you do this be sure to use a backup wrench on the adapter it screws into so you dont twist something apart in the wall. Some boiler drains while having threads happen to be soldered in though. They are made so you can a) thread them into an adapter or b) copper fits into the boiler drain allowing it to be soldered in. You say you're a novice so perhaps a call to a plumbing contractor might be a good idea.
