I have a boiler with old and new radiators. On my newer copper lines there is this valve and I need to know what is is. I'm trying to cut off water circulation to a specific room (there are two rooms using the new copper lines). I also have a heat pump in his house and it works fine except for one of the above rooms. It gets very little of the forced air. If I can use the boiler to heat this one room (it conveniently has the thermostat in it) I would be happy.

I did some Google searching. I can't find anything as simple as these if they are balancing valves. All I've seen are WAY more complex. Is the idea that the valve constricts the flow of water somewhat but never stops it like a valve.

They balance heat in the loops. Simple as that. You restrict flow to short loops so that baseboard temperatures are even

Excellent information. Since I'm looking at two restrictors and there are only two rooms with heat going into that part of the building I guess that tells me I'm looking at the input lines for each of the two different loops. There is also a looks like a return line that's a little bit bigger than the lines with the restrictions on them.

So if I put a valve on both of those two lines I should be able to turn on or off the heat going into One or the other of those loops.

Does that make sense?
