Hi,
I have a 4 year old ECS 40 that I'm going to drain and flush and was looking for the anode to inspect/replace. The plumbing contractor installed the TPS on the top between the feed lines. The schematic for this online shows the TPS on the side and the anode on the top. Is the anode on this model hidden somewhere else or is it not installed? Can I move the TPS to side and install the anode on the top? Tried contacting the plumber and AO Smith, but no good answers. Any help would be greatly appreciated,Forzaman.

Here's what it looks like:

Thanks. At least I wont have to cut the foam out now from the holes. I guess I'll just drain it.

All the anode rods are always in the top of the water heater !
Sometimes in large hot water storage tanks they may be in the side,

it usually takes a 11/16" socket to remove
