I drove a new 2 inch well with a 2 inch galvanized casing and point. Should I simply reduce this to 1 1/4 at the pump with a check valve for a direct connection or do I need to install a 1 1/4 drop pipe down the well?

Valveman is right, a 1-1/4" drop pipe with a check valve on the bottom is best. However many people hook the pump directly to the 2" casing with a check valve at the casing and it works OK if there no leaks. . . The 1-1/4" drop pipe and foot valve is still best!
