The attached photo shows the drain from my bathroom sink to the main drain, with a Y to the upstairs sink. The 2" pipe is ~level (only 1/8" drop over its 12" run). Is it worthwhile to cut off the pipe with a grinder and put it back together with a 2" rubber coupling and a slight elevation of the far end? I really don't want to cut out the Y and replace the entire joint...

Thank you and God Bless,
SPL

Upstairs drain?
There should be a vent between the wye for the upstairs and the p-trap for the lower lav.
How far does that go before it hits a larger pipe? And what does that connection look like?

If I had not read the description, I would have thought that the pipe coming into the top of the wye was the vent for the sink drain.

You are correct, that is the vent. But is it appropriate to hide that horizontal run in the wall? When I took out the P-Trap there was a lot of solid material that was laying in the entrance to that drain. It was easy enough to pull out, though. I suppose that I will just plan to snake annually to reduce buildup.
