    Insulating Basement Floors

Thanks Harleysilo and Frenchie for your replies. The basement (tore down original house and rebuilt on original basement) is approx 35 years old and has not been wet per the previous owner. I've had the house about 5 years now and can attest to that as well. We live on a hill and drain tiles...

    Insulating Basement Floors

I am planning on insulating the walls and floors of my basement. I will use Styrofoam on the walls with furring strips and then drywall. I also will use Styrofoam on the floors and plywood over that anchored with tapcons. The question I have is should I do the floor first or the walls...

    P Trap Extension

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm assuming you mean a sch 40 "Y" at the stub out then hook the p-traps from each bowl to the Y. Sounds like this would work well as it looks like the Tee is what is causing it to go too low. Eliminating this would help. The other thing I may look at is new basket...

    P Trap Extension

Thanks for the reply. What are my options? Since this is a laundry room it will be mostly used for miscellaneous use (washing paint brushes, hands, etc.) Besides the slow drain will there be any other issues? Also, is such an extension available? Thanks,

    P Trap Extension

It appears as though I roughed in my waste outlet too high in my laundry room. Approx 22" above finished floor. I am using a double bowl kitchen sink in this room. The bowls are deep. I attached an end outlet drain attached to a standard P-Trap. These are pvc fittings. Problem is that this...

    Self Leveling Compound

I am about to finish off my basement. The floor is not level in general and also has some pits from where I pried up the bottom plates of some old walls. I had laminate/linoleum type tiles glued to the floor in some spots and those have been scraped off but a small amount of adhesive may be...

    Hot Water Boiler Value

I have a 2002 Crown hot water boiler that I would like to sell but have no idea of the current value. It was purchased for approx $1400 back in the fall of 2002. It was only in the house I bought for 3 yrs before I took it out and seems to be in excellent condition. Can anyone help me on...

    Concrete Spalling

We are in Michigan and I did not put any salt down on the slab. I didn't even park on the area that is in question so it couldn't be road salt either. I don't know why it flaked so badly but now I want to either patch the area or resurface the area. Either way it will not blend in with the...

    Concrete Spalling

I have a section of concrete in my drive that has some significant spalling. Less than 2 yrs old and contractor or cement company won't cover it. Has anyone had any experience in using concrete resurfacing products. I.E. Quikcrete Concrete Resurfacer? Do these products eventually look as...

Only hot water out of tub

I have a Moen Posi-Temp Pressure Balancing Valve. New construction. I can only get hot water out of the tub spout and shower head. I know I have cold water to the bathroom as I have it at the sinks. Could the cartridge perhaps be plugged? Any advice on how to proceed? Thanks,

    Wood floor buckling

The floor is solid 3/4" maple pre finished. After seeing what is happening I believe it was a lot more than 1 gallon of water. I will put a fan and dehumidifier there and give it 7-10 days. If it relaxes a bit then great. If it doesn't I'll bite the bullet and have the boards replaced as I...

    Wood floor buckling

Thanks for the replies. The flooring is prefinished already. I am wondering if I do have to sand and refinish how I would blend that in with the rest of the floor. I also thought about putting something heavy on it. I didn't know how long it would take to go back to normal (if it does at...

    Wood floor buckling

I recently put down some 3/4" maple flooring in our kitchen. I made the mistake of checking the hot water supply before hooking up the supply line to the dishwasher. Approx .5-1 gallon of water came out and was quickly wiped up. Unfortunately, a bit later the seams started to buckle in that...

No pressure in 2nd floor tub

Update. I drained the cold line tonight and put a valve on the cold line going to the vanity. I have plenty of pressure here. According to the replies to my original post it could be debris in the valve or the hot water heater not being hooked up. Any advice on how I should proceed? I...

No pressure in 2nd floor tub

I only ran the outside hose faucets and nothing inside the house as I do not have any fixtures hooked up except for the upstairs tub. Should I drain the line and put a valve on the cold water line to the vanity to see if I have good pressure there?
