    Ok I will answer my own question....;) I contacted customer support and they verified that on these external models the 2 wires taped to the bottom of the unit was for AC power. The also agreed that the installation manual was lacking in this area:D

    I have bought a Rinnai tankless from the scratch and dented department of an online retailer... that being said I think there are somethings missing with the unit, (basically all that showed up was the unit and the valve kit) but am not sure since there is no parts list of what should come with...
