How 3" Indirect Shower On another forum about the shower only the poster has talked to his inspector and the plumber and they say the 3" PVC pipe is a tailpiece and has a trap below slab and thgis pipe is for the shower. That the poster can install a 2" shower drain with tailpiece and just...

Are there any gas hot water tanks you would not buy?

No Difference I don't think there is a significant difference between the water heater manufacturers. And if there is with the new FVIR heaters we do not know it yet. This has not always been the case. Twenty years ago there were more manufacturers and there were differences. There does not...

    Sewer gas/wax ring failure

I believe I do believe the outside vent will work and not cost much money but DebthePipeWench has more experience than I on septics and I will defer to her opinion if it differs.

Gas to house was off for a week, now cannot get it back on

No Fumes Don't fill your house with fumes. If you have fumes you have gas and you should lite it. Only turn on one burner. I don't understand what power you are shutting off. Are you shutting off the electronic ignition? Do you have another gas appliance like a furnace or water heater to see...

Gas to house was off for a week, now cannot get it back on

Bleed Air I was unaware of the resetable units. If that is not your case I think you just have not allow enough patience to bleed the air out. Our regulators do not need to be adjusted from the gas being shut off. It is possible to blow the diaphram but that is not common. I think you should...

Get Last Year's I think you'll be better off with last years heater because the new ones have a different system that may have problems that are not worked out yet.

    Sewer gas/wax ring failure

Don't Spend $$ Don't spend money on a house trap. I did not mean it as a recommendation but as an approach to understanding the problem. It is most likely that you need real vents to the atmosphere instead of Automatic Air Vents (AAV's), even if they are Studor's. A house trap is a 4" running...

    Sewer gas/wax ring failure

Trap Seal Good for you detective of foul odors. Seems you have identified that you are loosing your water in one or several of the traps which allows odor to infiltrate. See if you can identify which one. We loose trap seals from a lack of a vent to break siphonage. I feel that this can occur...

    Sewer gas/wax ring failure

Home to Drain In my area, mobile home sewer odors are most often from the connection from the mobile home to where it is tied into the sewer. Often they just use a flex line stuck into the pipe. It is not an air tight connection. When other sewer movement occurs in the area it aggitates the...

How hard is this? tub filler on the side, handles on one end

Limiting I would say temperature limiting instead of controlling. It means we will need an additional valve to limit the temperature. You are correct that changing the water heater setting does change the temperature of the mixed water regardless of the limiting valve or adjustment.

    Sizing an indirect HW tank

Most Posts Jim you have 360 posts on this site and I ony have 307. I should be asking you questions. This one is a little more specific so you may need to give some time. All the multiple syllable words are more in hj's area anyway.

What's with the lack of understanding of FVIR code?

Knowing Codes We don't know our codes very well. They didn't use to change so much. The FVIR's are not really a code thing anyway. It's a new appliance thing. It's an agreement between the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the water heater manufacturers association. Even with seminars...

    House trap

I'll Check hj I'm going to recheck on the reasoning for the trap districts since you have such a firm opinion. And thanks for identifying yourself Dale. I sit on the Wichita Plumbing Board and recall the information we received from you when we approved a form of the trenchless pipe-bursting...

    Grohe bath faucet rough in

Better Wait These Grohe and hansgrohe rough ins are causing problems. Tile showers are having to be torn out and the valves reset. You should be able to do the rough in separate from the finish but I and others are having trouble getting the grohe's rough-ins to fit the actual product. I have...

    black specks in water--HELP!!!

Water's Just Dirty The water probably isn't bad it's just dirty. We're getting a lot of posts about black specks lately. Try to isolate it. Is it only the tub valve? and is it both the cold water and the hot. If it's all hot water in the house then I think it's flex connectors at the water...

    House trap

Trap Districts I do have trap districts in Wichita. This is city main and not septic which is the subject on the originating post. Traps are installed here on the older mains that get filled to capacity. Our sewer department says these lines can blow and/or suck out the traps in a house at...

Bathtub Reglazing - anyone have it done?

Sometimes Good You can get a good reglazing job that will last. But there are still companies that try to do it too fast and with a lesser quality of chemicals.
