Drain in residential garage with septic

You are correct in your interpretation that they are allowed. However, most municipalities do not want them connected to the municipal system. Our inspector usually suggest to run in it to a "stone pit" somewhere on your property - which would usually be about 2'-3' square and deep filled with...

New toilet and sink connection with Air Admittance Valve

you cannot add an AAV "under the sink" and comply with Canadian code... the AAV must be above flood level rim and accessible - and not in an attic or unconditioned space with exposure to freezing conditions

    p-trap vs bottle trap

by calling it a p-trap they are trying to get around the plumbing code regarding bottle traps (which it actually is)

Reducing roof vents in roof replacement

why not tie the 2 vents together in the attic and run just one through the roof, thus eliminating one penetration? removing proper vents in favour of AAV's goes against any sense of good plumbing procedure and will more than likely leave you with venting issues down the road

    Help with laundry room plumbing

it may be a worthwhile investment to hire a pro to come in and remove the trap then you take it from there...there's two ways to go about it...as Terry mentioned by splitting the fitting hub and "breaking" it off the pipe...or cutting it close to the hub and use a Rambit

    Help with laundry room plumbing

no. Terry has given you good advice on how to pipe this...if you cant get at the running trap right away, at least pipe it the way Terry has shown and remove the running trap afterwards. it isn't the best way, but will be better in the long run. our code does allow you to have this pipe sized as...

Sewage sump failures and check valves

going to a two pump system may be a better option than "check valves". if you wish to "check valve" then you want to use a backwater valve that is normally open to allow for proper system venting and less chance of blockage. I would highly recommend the 2 pump system and use top quality pumps

    Double kitchen sink drain problem

the obvious reason that the water backs up into the other sink is that it is not draining fast enough - most likely a partial blockage or restriction. that s-trap arrangement looks look it would be more restrictive than the old chrome assembly
